Cancer Genetics
One of the main theories of cancer is that it is strongly based on genetics and mutations. In particular, it is believed that cancerous cells arise as a result of multiple genetic mutations.
Cancer Gene Types
A cancer cell seems to have several mutations, perhaps as many as 8. The types of genes that exhibit mutations tend to be:
- Oncogenes
- Tumor suppressor genes
- Angiogenesis genes (blood supply genes)
- Telomerase genes
- Apoptosis genes
- Metastasis genes
