- heart disease (26.9%),
- chronic lower respiratory diseases (4.7%),
- cerebrovascular diseases including stroke (4.0%),
- diabetes (3.8%),
- accidents (3.0%),
- chronic liver disease and cirrhosis (2.4%),
- suicide (1.2%),
- kidney diseases (1.2%),
- septicemia (1.1%), and
- other causes (14.4%) [CDC NVSR 2001].
