Risk Factors for Insomnia
| About risk factors: Risk factors for Insomnia are factors that do not seem to be a direct cause of the disease, but seem to be associated in some way. Having a risk factor for Insomnia makes the chances of getting a condition higher but does not always lead to Insomnia. Also, the absence of any risk factors or having a protective factor does not necessarily guard you against getting Insomnia. For general information and a list of risk factors, see the risk center. |
Risk factor list: The list of risk factors mentioned for Insomnia in various sources includes:
- Age - especially over 60
- Female
- History of depression
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Certain medical problems
Risk factors discussion:
Women, the elderly, and individuals with a history of depression are
all more likely to experience insomnia. If other conditions (such as
stress, anxiety, a medical problem, or the use of certain medications)
occur along with the above conditions, insomnia is more likely. 1
