Delayed Diagnosis
A delayed diagnosis is the failure to correctly diagnose a condition. It can occur where no condition is diagnosed at all, or when the wrong diagnosis is given.
Delayed diagnosis of any kind is problematic for diseases
where an early diagnosis leads to higher cure rates.
Unfortunately, certain diseases are prone to this type of misdiagnosis.
Many malpractice cases regarding lung cancer or colon cancer
allege a delayed diagnosis,
either due to failure to assess symptoms correctly,
or the mismanagement of diagnostic tests.
