Prevalence and Incidence of Latent tuberculosis
| About prevalence and incidence statistics: The term 'prevalence' of Latent tuberculosis usually refers to the estimated population of people who are managing Latent tuberculosis at any given time. The term 'incidence' of Latent tuberculosis refers to the annual diagnosis rate, or the number of new cases of Latent tuberculosis diagnosed each year. Hence, these two statistics types can differ: a short-lived disease like flu can have high annual incidence but low prevalence, but a life-long disease like diabetes has a low annual incidence but high prevalence. For more information see about prevalence and incidence statistics. |
Prevalance of Latent tuberculosis: estimated 10 to 15 million people in USA (NIAID)
Prevalance Rate: approx 1 in 27 or 3.68% or 10 million people in USA [about data]
Undiagnosed prevalence of Latent tuberculosis: estimated 10 to 15 million people in USA (NIAID)
Undiagnosed prevalence rate: approx 1 in 27 or 3.68% or 10 million people in USA [about data]
Prevalance of Latent tuberculosis: In addition to those with active TB, however, an estimated 10 to 15 million people in the United States have latent TB infections and about 10 percent of these will develop active TB at some time in their lives.1
