Medical Dictionary: False negative
False negative: Erroneous test result indicating a negative result
Introduction: A false negative is a test result that is incorrect, with a negative result wrongly indicating you do not have a condition. For example, a pregnancy test saying that you are not pregnant when you are pregnant, is a false negative, because it is a "negative" result indicating you are not pregnant. Almost all medical tests have some risk of false positives or false negatives. See also false positives.
