Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by Toronto Star): Boston researchers have found that obesity triggers a genetic trigger in the liver which causes low-level inflammation. This causes a reduction in the body’s reduced ability to process insulin thus resulting in type 2 diabetes. This finding has led researchers to use drugs similar to aspirin to alleviate the inflammation and hence relieve the type 2 diabetes symptoms in mice. Human studies are currently being done.
