Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by PharmaLive): Pharmixis Ltd is seeking approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration to sell its drug Aridol in Australia. Aridol is aimed at diagnosing asthma patients and managing the condition. It is a dry powder which requires an inhaler to deliver it to the lungs. The results can show how severe the asthma is and how beneficial the medication being used is. It can also be used to determine if inhaled steroids will benefit chronic obstructive pulmonary disease sufferers. Aridol treatment can be done in a GP’s office. Clinical trials involving the drug showed a good correlation between a physician’s diagnosis and diagnosis through Aridol. Aridol also suggested that 25% of asthmatics tested needed some change to her medication with about 17% being able to reduce their level of medication without harm.
