Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by Infozine): Although no human studies have been done on the topic, a study on mice has found that a low carbohydrate diet during pregnancy produces female offspring who were more likely to have lower liver triglyceride levels when the reached adulthood. The diet also produced female offspring that had higher levels of protein that assist oxidation of fatty acids. The low carbohydrate pregnancy produced male offspring that also had these beneficial traits but not to the same degree. This knowledge can potentially be used to encourage pregnant mothers to reduce carbohydrate intake in order to produce offspring more resistant to coronary artery disease which is a major killer.
