Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by News-Journal Online - East Volusia): Many previous users of Vioxx are now also wary of the replacement drugs such as Bextra and Celebrex. Some doctors only recommend this class of Cox-2 inhibitors in the short term until the patient is able to manage their condition through exercise. However, a clinical pharmacist rejects the theory that Cox-2 inhibitors cause heart problems. He believes that traditional drugs use to treat osteoarthritis had the benefit of aspirin and ibuprofen which thinned the blood and thus helped with heart problems. The Cox- 2 inhibitors group of drugs however did not have the blood thinning benefits which is being misconstrued as being a cause of heart problems. He believes that aspiring taken with Cos-2 inhibitors is the answer to the problem and Vioxx need not have been banned as some people found it’s beneficial effects unmatchable by other products on the market.
