Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by Medical News Today): Researchers have found that patients who use rofecoxib faced three times the risk of a myocardial infarction compared to those on celecoxib. Nonselective nonaspirin NSAIDs did not seem to increase the risk of a myocardial infarction. Researchers want more studies down on the effects of the whole range of COX-2 inhibitors and believe that COX-2 inhibitors shouldn’t be used in patients at risk of cardiovascular disease or gastrointestinal toxicity unless absolutely necessary. These researcher claim that nonselective nonaspirin NSAIDs are a safer option.
