The rash may also be eczema or a sign of other allergic conditions. Eczema (or atopic dermatitis) occurs in almost 9% of the US population and 15% of children. Eczema rashes often occur on the face, albows and knees. Eczema may also signify allergies to food, allergic rhinitis or asthma. Diagnosis can be assisted by noticing if the person’s eczema deteriorates after eating or if wheezing or other breathing problems occur with the eczema outbreak. By determining what is setting of the eczema, the condition can be better managed and treated. Managing and preventing eczema may involve: avoiding the allergen, having cool showers, frequent moisturizing, avoiding heat, reducing stress, avoiding harsh materials and avoiding scratching or rubbing.
