Antidepressants may double the risk of suicide and some antidepressants may even cause a greater risk. The FDA expects to introduce new warning labels or some restrictions on their use in children. The FDA warns that Paxil shouldn’t be used in children under 18. Effexor and Effexor XR are also not advisable. Drug regulators in Britain claim that only Prozac provides worthwhile benefits for children. Ten antidepressants have already been ordered to adjust their labeling to bring attention to the risk of depression, suicidal behavior and anxiety. Another concern is that many children are diagnosed with depression when they may really have bipolar disorder
