From 1956 to 1962, 700,000 vaccine doses were released even though they contained the simian virus (SV40) which has proven carcinogenic effects in animals. Mesothelioma sufferers often have traces of SV40 but no conclusive causal link has been established. It is also noted that the same laboratory is used by hemophiliacs for treatment and 90% of them are infected with Hepatitis C.
