Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by Web MD Medical News): Researchers at Baylor University Medical Center conducted a study and the findings indicate that inhaled insulin in the form of a dry powder is as effective as injected insulin. The insulin powder is absorbed into the bloodstream straight from the lungs making it take effect faster than injected insulin. The inhaled insulin showed no greater level of side effects than did injected insulin. Coughing was experienced by 20% of those who inhaled insulin but the coughing subsided significantly after two weeks.
