Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by PR Newswire): Laser therapy is gaining momentum as an effective alternative treatment for arthritis and especially knee osteoarthritis. Initial studies indicate that laser therapy may be more than twice as effective as NSAIDs and has no known side effects. In comparison, it is believed that the side effects of NSAID’s have resulted in about 2,000 deaths each year in Great Britain. The deaths generally occur in patients who use the medication extensively over long periods of time. More research is being done into laser therapy but some countries such as Norway already use it as a standard therapy for knee osteoarthritis.
