Lipitor did lower their cholesterol by about 41% but this did not seem to significantly reduce the rate of heart attack or stroke. However, patients with type 2 diabetes who did not have kidney failure showed a markedly reduced risk of heart disease and stroke when Lipitor was used. This suggests Lipitor has little benefit once the diabetic patient reaches renal failure.
