Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by KSL TV): Type 1 diabetes usually presents itself at ages 5-7 or during the teenage years. Increasing numbers of children are being diagnosed with the condition and although most of them have a family history of diabetes, some don’t. In most cases type 1 diabetes is inherited. A symptom of the onset of the condition is usually sudden weight loss, fatigue, frequent drinking and frequent urination. Diagnosis of a child with type 1 diabetes usually means they need to be hospitalized where they are given injections and are educated about the food they should and shouldn’t eat. No cure exists for type 1 diabetes but it is increasingly easier to control.
