Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by New York-WABC): There is dissent over how often women should have a mammogram to ensure an early diagnosis which in turn provides a better prognosis. Recent research indicates that a mammogram every two years provides the same detection and survival rates as every year but other researchers say that the study should be done on much larger groups over longer periods of time in order to provide meaningful results. The American Cancer Society would like to see yearly mammograms but many European countries are recommending it every two years.
