Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by The Leaf-Chrnoicle): A woman looked for answers when she suddenly and inexplicably started to lose weight. After a few misdiagnoses, ovarian cancer was revealed by a CAT scan. 11 years earlier, the 53 year old woman had cystic ovaries which resulted in a hysterectomy. However, the hysterectomy was incomplete and some ovarian tissue was not removed which gave the cancer a starting point. The ensuing anemia left her exhausted and anemic. 75% of chemotherapy patients suffer severely from anemia. Previously, blood transfusions was the only relief for the anemia but now, drugs such as Procrit and Aranesp can help replenish red blood cells.
