Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by Star-Telegram): A woman diagnosed with a cancerous left kidney had her right kidney removed during an operation. The wrong kidney was removed. The woman is making a medical malpractice claim. In a separate incident, a malpractice claim is being made against an obstetrician whose actions resulted in an emergency hysterectomy and a brain damaged newborn. The obstetrician failed to monitor the baby during delivery, used Cytotec inappropriately to induce labour and performed the C-section in an untimely manner. In yet another case, a doctor failed to follow up adequately a patient’s treatment. The patient had an undiagnosed colorectal cancer which should have been diagnosed by the doctor if he had asked questions about the patient’s history, ordered appropriate tests and organized follow-up.
