Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by The New Zealand Herald): Mounting research evidence suggests that Tamoxifen is no longer the number one choice for breast cancer. Tamoxifen is often used after breast cancer treatment (usually mastectomy and chemotherapy) to prevent reoccurrence or spreading of the cancer. Side effects include headaches, fatigue and depression. The drug Arimidex provides fewer side effects and may even be more effective than tamoxifen. Arimidex is part of a group of drugs called aromatase inhibitors and another drug called Femara from the same group is due to be released soon.
