Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by Sea Coast Health): It is estimated that up to two thirds of the 20 million people in America believed to be suffering from thyroid disorders are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Thyroid disorders are more prevalent in females than males: females 5-8 times more likely to have hypothyroidism and 8-10 times more likely to have hyperthyroidism than men. Thyroid disorders can cause fatigue, weight problems, depression, anxiety, sexual dysfunction, constipation or diarrhea and menstrual irregularities. Thyroid disease can be treated through medication or dietary changes.
