Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by HealthDay News): Appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix which is an organ attached to the beginning of the large intestine. It does not appear to serve any real purpose and itís removal causes no problems. Once inflammation begins, it is unstoppable and surgery is the only cure. Untreated or delayed treatment of appendicitis can cause a burst appendix which can lead to infection and possibly death. Appendicitis symptoms include: abdomen pain starting near the belly button and then moving to the lower-right part of the abdomen, appetite loss, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, low fever, abdominal swelling and increased pain when sufferer moves, sneezes, coughs or breathes deeply.
