Contagious: Parainfluenza
| About contagion: Contagion and contagiousness refers to how easily the spread of Parainfluenza is possible from one person to another. Other words for contagion include "infection", "infectiousness", "transmission" or "transmissability". Contagiousness has nothing to do with genetics or inheriting diseases from parents. For an overview of contagion, see Introduction to Contagion. |
Contagion summary:
HPIVs are spread from respiratory secretions through close
contact with infected persons or contact with contaminated surfaces or
objects. Infection can occur when infectious material contacts mucous
membranes of the eyes, mouth, or nose, and possibly through the inhalation
of droplets generated by a sneeze or cough. HPIVs can remain infectious
in aerosols for over an hour.1
