Having a risk factor for Shigellosis makes the chances of getting a condition higher but does not always lead to Shigellosis. Also, the absence of any risk factors or having a protective factor does not necessarily guard you against getting Shigellosis. persons in custodial institutions, where personal hygiene
is difficult to maintain; Native Americans; orthodox Jews;
international travelers; men who have sex with men; and those
in homes with inadequate supplies for handwashing.1
