Treatments: Insulin Pill

Introduction: The idea of this research area is to take insulin as tablets like other medications. None of the diabetes pills currently used to treat Type 2 diabetes contain insulin. Instead, they contain medicines that affect various aspects of the insulin-related system. However, all Type 1 diabetics would love to replace their daily injections with pills containing insulin. Unfortunately, insulin is a protein, and hence is broken down in the stomach. This makes insulin more difficult to get to work in a tablet than other types of medications which are not broken down and digested.
