Treatments: Insulin pumps
Introduction: The insulin pump has been available for treatment of diabetes for years and is widely used. It can achieve tighter control than insulin injections and at the same time increase convenience. However, pumps also have some downsides and are not for everybody. Diabetics who need insulin are usually started on injections and then may later move to the pump.
Pumps are mainly used for Type 1 diabetics and late-stage Type 2 diabetics.
Usually pumps are used after having used insulin injections for
some time and typically only for those who require multiple daily insulin injections.
When using the pump, it is usual not to have any other injections.
